The Inner Landscape

Exploring abstract painting with Landon Mackenzie, a Governor General Award-winning artist,  Landon had many stories to share, as well as creative prompts and inspiration. Walking through an exhibition of her work, she explained: “the landscape is what ties them”…   I was drawn to the idea of an abstracted landscape, but equally to the metaphor it implied; working with mental maps and a sense of destination, but also allowing for inspiration to enter….       What of the inner landscape?

Notions of resourcefulness and experimentation truly resonated with me. Periods of working intuitively, alternating with looking analytically. Responding to a painting, researching, negotiating…    letting it ripen…      asking it what it needs.
